Summer Opportunities Re-imagined
About
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) focuses on year-around programming, however, summer is often the time of year young people connect to first-time, lasting, and impactful employment opportunities.
In 2020, local workforce areas around the country were forced to re-imagine summer youth employment opportunities and adapt their service delivery strategies to meet youth where they were at. The following provides a list of resources and lessons learned during this re-envisioning.
- Summer 2020 Webcasts features three local areas who share experiences about serving youth in the 2020 summer.
- Staying Connected: Engaging Youth Virtually shares information about virtual engagement tools designed to assist professionals working with youth.
- Summer Jobs Resource Page provides resources to successfully implement a high-quality summer youth employment program.
- Youth Listening Toolkit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Population Affairs (OPA), shares different youth engagement strategies and provides resources to support organizations in meaningfully and systematically engaging youth.
- Digital Summer Youth Employment Toolkit 2.0 the aspen institute shares a list of digital resources, practices, and tools.
- Strategies for Operating the YouthBuild Program in a Virtual Environment Training Series provides guidance and best practices for programs in a virtual environment.
- The resource lists below shares information for youth workforce programs continuing serving young people in virtual environments:
1. Part One - Staying Connected: Resources on Virtual Engagement includes resources on program design, career exploration, work experience, and more!
2. Part Two - Staying Connected: Resources on Virtual Engagement includes resources on food, healthcare, housing, mental health, and more!
