Sample Apprenticeship Aptitude Practice Exams

Some registered apprenticeships (RAs) in the skilled trades require candidates to take aptitude tests to demonstrate their knowledge of necessary math, spatial awareness, measuring, or reading comprehension skills.
Not all RAs require candidates to take these exams, but they are especially common in trades that require journeyworkers to use math daily, such as electrical work. These tests can look very different across trades and regions.
Though RA aptitude tests may look daunting, test takers do not typically need to answer every question. Often, apprenticeship sponsors grade the exams on a curve. For example, candidates must aim for a score of 4 out of 9 on the IBEW exam to receive an invitation to interview.
Ask your local RA sponsors if they offer sample exams or information on test format and passing scores. Here are examples of sample test materials shared by various RA sponsors and locals across several trades:
