Youth Systems Building (YSB) Academy: Overview and Resources
About
The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration established the Youth Systems Building Academy (YSB Academy) to provide training and technical assistance to workforce systems and their community partners to help develop, test, implement, and/or scale systems that engage and support young people between 16 to 24 years of age who are disconnected from school and the workforce.
Nineteen communities total participated in the two cohorts of the YSB Academy. Each community was led by their local workforce board and represented urban, suburban, and rural areas across the United States. Community partners ranged from educational, justice, and other human services systems to foundations and labor unions, among others.
Learn more about the Academy by reviewing the Youth Systems Building Academy Compendium of Community Accomplishments. The compendium is an interactive PDF that includes highlights and lessons learned from both cohorts and individual community profiles for each of the 19 participating communities. Each community profile includes accomplishments during the Academy, advice for other communities interested in building youth workforce systems, and next steps in their systems-building efforts.
A non-interactive version of the compendium can be downloaded here: YSB Academy Compendium (Downloadable PDF)
