InformationLiteracy.gov: Resources for Digital, Financial, Health, and Information Literacy
About
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) launched InformationLiteracy.gov in partnership with 15 other Federal agencies. This website has specialized toolkits, community engagement materials, suggestions for partnership outreach, and other resources designed to engage diverse communities in developing critical information literacy skills. Currently, the website includes over 100 high quality and relevant resources to support digital, financial, health, and information literacy.
- Information Literacy: Information literacy is a set of skills that people need to find, understand, evaluate, and share information. You can use the resources on InformationLiteracy.gov to plan information literacy programs and help community members build these critical skills.
- Digital Literacy: As technology evolves, we encounter more and more information every day — including mis- and disinformation. Digital literacy is the ability to use the internet and other digital tools to find accurate information and apply that information to our own lives.
- Financial Literacy: Financial literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, and use financial information to make decisions about personal finances. Everyone needs financial literacy skills to get the most out of their money and work toward their financial goals.
- Health Literacy: To care for our physical and mental well-being, we need information about our health. Health literacy is the ability to find, understand, and use health information.
Each resource on the site has been evaluated by IMLS according to 5 evaluation criteria. Below are 3 examples of the resources and toolkits that are featured on the site:
- Real Fake: A Graphic Novel - Real Fake is a graphic novel about online mis- and disinformation inspired by real events.
- Money Smart Financial Education Program - Money Smart is an award-winning financial education curriculum designed to help people of all ages enhance their financial skills and create positive banking relationships.
- Training Resources for Professionals: Tools to Teach Toolkit - This information literacy educational toolkit was created to help busy library and museum professionals and community-based organizations meet their community’s needs and provide resources and trainings to build financial, health, digital, and other information literacy skills.
